The trustees have directed that the Hall be used to help address the social needs of the local population. This has in practice led to the creation of youth clubs on 3 nights of every working week. In addition to this, groups such as the Royal British Legion are given free use of the facility for their monthly meetings and for special events such as the yearly Festival of Victory and Remembrance events.
Furthermore, although it is not in their Job Descriptions, our staff give up a significant amount of their free time and energy to assist in these endeavours!
See below for a brief introduction to groups who have use of the Community Hall, and for links to more information
St Luke's Youth Club
St Luke's Youth Club runs in the Father Goose Hall, every Monday and Wednesday night from 6.30 - 8.30pm. There is a 50p fee per person, per session. Young people aged 8 to 18 can come along and join at any time.
Activities on offer include sports, games, craft activities, trips, etc. We have a Youth Committee made up of club members who take an active part in deciding what activities and events take place, and represent their fellow members at the local Youth Parliament (8-11 years) and Youth Forum (11-18 years).
Every year we run a three week Summer Scheme involving activities on-site and trips around London (and occasionally further afield). To read about previous Summer Schemes and see photos, click here.
We are always looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers, aged 16 and up. Training is available for all volunteers, and young adult volunteers can work towards their Youth Achievement Awards through helping out at the club.

Scouts
We meet on a Friday evening between 6pm - 8pm, at Father Goose Hall, we are a family group. Scouting makes a positive contribution to society by helping young people to develop as active members of the community. We go camping and organise a lot of trips for our young people to enjoy.
We take both boys and girls from the age of 6years - 14 years. We need parents help ranging from fund raising ideas to assisting on trips, to helping within the group. If you have any time to spare and think that you could help please contact Rod Langton Group Scout Leader on 020 8472 6197 / 07946 563 141, any time.
So come on and get you and your child/children involved in the Best Group in Newham.
Regards
Rod G.S.L 43rd
Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion's South West Ham Branch meets in Father Goose Hall on the first Tuesday of every month. They are actively seeking new branch members, background and age no barrier. The Legion is no longer just for ex-Service personnel, and 'new blood' is always appreciated.
The Branch works with our charity in the community, specifically on the annual Festival of Victory (next one due 28th June 2008), and on commemorative events such as Remembrance on the appropriate dates throughout the year.
If you are interested in joining, come along to any St Luke's Boot Sale, where you will find Geoff and Keith on the recruitment stall!
New Shed Theatre Group
Established in 2001 as part of Chickenshed’s Shedlinks outreach programme, New Shed now operates as an independent organisation, working under the inclusive theatre approach pioneered by Chickenshed. As an inclusive theatre company we believe that every individual has something unique to offer. Our weekly performing arts sessions encompass areas of drama, dance and music, and allow young people to explore their own creativity and work inclusively with their peers and experienced theatre professionals, to produce exciting, innovative and dynamic theatre.
New Shed have recently moved to St. Lukes and are currently recruiting for their Children’s and Youth Theatre, sessions for which take place on Thursday evenings during term time. We welcome individuals of all backgrounds and abilities; all our activities are fully accessible. There is no audition process and no previous performing arts experience is necessary.
Children’s Theatre (7 – 11 years) runs from 6.15 – 7.15 pm.
Youth Theatre (12 – 16 years) runs from 7.30 – 8.30 pm.
There is a subscription fee of £1 per session, which is payable weekly.

Festivals, Fetes and Community Events
We run various Fetes and Festivals every year, and we try to get as many community organisations and local people involved as we possibly can!
FESTIVAL OF VICTORY
Our main event is the Festival of Victory, held some time near Veteran's Day every year. This is run in conjunction with the Royal British Legion's South West Ham Branch and the Scouts, and features food and entertainment for local elderly people, stalls, games, sideshows and activities for everyone. This event takes place in St Luke's grounds and in the neighbouring Kier Hardie Recreation Ground.
Every year, this event attracts around 1,000 local people for a day of fun and fraternisation.
For photos from previous years, see our Photos page.
BOOT SALES
In addition, around the middle of every month, there is a regular Boot Sale in and around St Luke's. Tables are available inside and outside, and the sales start at 10am and end at 4pm.
Tables cost £5 each, and anyone is welcome - though we will not allow you to sell any pirated or counterfeit goods. We do not allow catering stalls, as Walshes Cafe @ E16 is open on the day.
First come, first served, and if you have any queries or special requirements please contact Tina on 020 7366 6403 before the event.
